Four Generations of Fairfield Cooking
Samuel Augustus Daniel was selling chili in downtown Fairfield at nine years old. By the time he and Doris opened their little BBQ stand on Highway 75 in 1953 — sawdust floors, school desks for tables — he had already perfected the sauce we still use today.
Doris spent the next 34 years making the pies. Their son Gilbert — everybody called him Ponte — took over the business and ran it for the rest of his life. Today the fourth generation, Sonny and his children, keep the pits smoking and the recipes exactly the way they have always been.
